How are the Doctrine and Covenants organized?

Although I used to be Mormon. I got out. One little reason is that I believe that the Doctrine and Covenants should have been organized in chronological order. I sure would make more sense. But, then there are so many things about this cult that don't. And, this is just one of many reasons.
